On 26th May a ceremony was held in Nongfa village, Sanxay District in Attapeu Province to officially hand-over the gravity-fed water system that was constructed by SFE between November 2014 and January 2015. The system provides clean water for the 319 inhabitants of this rural village. The water comes through a 2 km long pipeline from a small river in the mountains,
is collected in a water tank in the village and from there distributed by gravity to 10 tap points in the village. SFE spent a total of 16.320 USD for the construction of the system while the village contributed an amount of 5.544 USD in form of work force, wood, sand and gravel.
With the availability of water the cleanliness of the village changed tremendously, allowing the villagers to use toilets, to wash and clean and to do vegetable gardens without having to carry water over long distances.
